Compile

Through the COMPILE project, financed by the European Union from the Horizon 2020 program, the goal is to demonstrate the possibilities for decarbonizing the electricity supply, building energy communities, and creating ecological and socio-economic benefits in smaller test areas. The project in Croatia is implemented by the Green Energy Cooperative, and the town of Križevci was chosen as one of the three project pilot locations in the EU area where the project activities will be demonstrated.

The project will test replicable and scalable business models at the location of the Development Center and Technology Park, through which the development of solutions for small producers of electricity from solar systems with self-consumption in Croatia would be encouraged. The focus is primarily on public buildings, small and medium enterprises and households. Furthermore, the project will increase self-sustainability through a more secure electricity supply and improve service for companies in the technology park complex, as well as for other public buildings nearby. For this purpose, 6 smart energy management tools developed through several previous EU projects will be used, with the intention of improving energy micro-grids, which is being applied for the first time in the world. Also, in addition to testing innovative blockchain technology, including a peer-to-peer market, batteries, chargers for electric vehicles, a reactive power compensator and a heat exchanger will be tested and installed in the technology park building, which, in cooperation with the existing photovoltaic power plant on the roof, will enable cheaper energy to companies in the complex.

As part of the project, the latest technologies such as blockchain and algorithms based on artificial intelligence will be studied to optimize the operation of the energy micro-grid and form energy communities.

The innovation and research project COMPILE is coordinated by the University of Ljubljana, specifically the Energy Policy Laboratory LEST, and includes 12 partners from 7 different EU countries: Spain, Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Greece and Portugal.

The total value of the project is EUR 6.35 million, of which the Green Energy Cooperative’s share amounts to EUR 369,750, intended primarily for research, development and application of high technology at the test site in Križevci.
