About the project
The DIGITISE project aims to improve digital literacy and empower consumers to actively engage in digital energy activities and markets, and become key participants in the energy transition. The project brings together expert knowledge on energy systems, flexible energy services, markets and transactions, as well as the engagement of people in the digital environment.
Using advanced technologies, DIGITISE offers innovative services such as digital twins, markets based on DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology), AI analytics, big data management, interoperability and security. All this is integrated into a holistic framework for consumer empowerment, which will be tested in Living Labs and at four large demonstration sites in Greece, Spain, Croatia and Ireland.
The project includes different participants (consumers, producers (prosumers) and business actors such as small and medium enterprises, aggregators and local energy communities, and uses diverse data from different domains, heterogeneous energy and non-energy systems, and takes into account climatic and socioeconomic variations.
ZEZ’s role in the project
Demonstration activities will be established in the central region of Croatia, especially in the Zagreb area (part of the European Commission’s mission to transform 100 cities into climate-neutral and smart urban centers by 2030).
ZEZ has established partnerships with more than 30 Croatian municipalities and cities. These collaborations serve as a dynamic catalyst for sharing best practices and generating innovative solutions aimed at advancing sustainable urban energy management. In addition to data collection, ZEZ has an active Facebook group “Solarni klub” with almost 40,000 members, which gathers technology enthusiasts and influential stakeholders in the energy market. This online community serves as a key hub for disseminating knowledge, stimulating interest in sustainable energy practices, and enabling the collection and measurement of a wide range of data. This allows insight into the impact of housing type on energy consumption, consumer and producer behavior, and potential policy recommendations.
In the context of the DIGITISE project, ZEZ will build on and use this knowledge to extend its services to individual households with installed solar power plants, energy communities and groups of active customers. Concrete demonstration activities that will be carried out by the pilot in Croatia are:
- Consumer-oriented energy efficiency and optimization of own consumption
- Promotion of green energy investments at household level through financial support and informed decision-making
- Involving citizens in flexibility transactions and dynamic virtual power plant (VPP) configuration to define service and functionality based on real consumer needs
- Empowering citizens through data sharing and participation in the data economy
- Personalized energy insights for consumer engagement and capacity building
